  1. Click the account menu at the top right of any Facebook page
  2. Choose Account Settings
  3. Select Security from the left-hand menu
  4. Click on "Deactivate your account"
When you deactivate your account, your profile (timeline) and all information associated with it disappears from the Facebook service immediately. People on Facebook will not be able to search for you or view any of your information.

If you’d like to come back to Facebook anytime after you’ve deactivated your account, you can reactivate your account by logging in with your email and password. Your profile (timeline) will be restored in its entirety (friends, photos, interests, etc.). Remember that you will need to have access to the login email address for your account in order to reactivate it.

  2. Next to PayPal/Credit card, click "Remove"


Your payment source will then be removed from your Facebook account.

Please note that if you are removing a PayPal account, PayPal will send you an email notifying you of the cancellation of your billing agreement with Facebook. This simply means your PayPal account will no longer be instantly accessible while making purchases in games and apps.

  1. Go to your home page and find the list you want to edit (Home > Friends > More or Home > Interests > More)
  2. Click on name of the list you want to delete
  3. Click on the Manage List dropdown and select Delete List
Smart lists:
You have the option to archive your smart lists. When you archive a lists, it will no longer appear on your home page. You also won't see an option to share posts with this list. If you change your mind, you can easily restore the list from your lists page.

To archive a smart list:
  1. Go to your lists page (Home > Lists > More)
  2. Click on name of the list you want to archive
  3. Click on the Manage List dropdown and select Archive List
Default lists:
You can’t delete default lists, but these lists will stop appearing on your home page if you don't use them.

Archiving a conversation will hide it from your messages view, while deleting a conversation from Messages permanently removes the entire conversation and its history.

To archive a conversation, go to your main messages page and click the "x" next to the message. The conversation’s history will be preserved, and you will still be able to find it later. If the same person sends you a new message later, the archived conversation will reappear, and the new message will be added to it.

To permanently delete a conversation from your messages, simply open the conversation, then select "Delete Messages..." from the Actions drop-down menu.

If you click "Delete All" at the bottom of the page, the full conversation history will be permanently cleared from your messages. You can also check the boxes next to individual messages and click "Delete Selected" to permanently delete parts of the conversation.

Note: Deleting a message from your inbox will not delete the message from your friend's inbox.
